Conversations can be the turning point in preventing HIV, but knowing how to start them makes all the difference. During this session, you’ll discover how motivational interviewing can transform sensitive discussions into meaningful care opportunities.

Speaker:
Venise R. De Etoulem, PharmD, AAHIVP
Dr. Etoulem is a residency-trained pharmacist practicing at Whitman-Walker Health pharmacy, a VytlOne-managed site in Washington, DC. She specializes in HIV/Hepatitis C treatment and HIV prevention (PrEP/PEP) for underserved and LGBTQ+ populations. She also serves as Research Pharmacist of Record for Whitman-Walker Institute, managing investigational drugs in HIV clinical trials.
Learning Objectives
- Demonstrate motivational interviewing techniques to initiate HIV prevention conversations with both adult and adolescent patients.
- Develop a "warm hand-off" referral map and implement protocols linking patients to local HIV testing centers, youth health clinics, and harm-reduction organizations.
- Design tailored strategies for navigating insurance benefits and patient-assistance programs to support PrEP/PEP initiation.
