Briana (Bri) P. Murray, PharmD, BCACP

Transgender Health Matters: Compassion, Care and Medications


About Dr. Murray:

Dr. Briana (Bri) P. Murray received her Bachelor of Science’s degree in Biochemistry from Clemson University in 2012 and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the South Carolina College of Pharmacy in Columbia, SC in 2016. Upon graduation, she moved to Indianapolis, IN to complete a PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency at Dr. Aziz Pharmacy/Purdue University College of Pharmacy. Following her PGY1, Dr. Murray accepted a staff pharmacist position at an innovative Walgreens Pharmacy that offered compounding, delivery, and specialized services to a local federally qualified health center (FQHC). After working in the community for 3 years, she decided to further her training by completing a PGY2 in Ambulatory Care Pharmacy with Community Care Physicians, P.C./Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Using her newly gained skills, she moved to Baltimore, MD to be a clinical pharmacist for Correct Rx Pharmacy Services, Inc, where she was responsible for clinical and administrative duties for 4 correctional facilities in central Maryland. To continue her passion of helping the underserved population, Dr. Murray was hired in January 2023 to expand a diabetes management clinic with a local FQHC, Chase Brexton Health Care.

Dr. Murray’s current interests are diabetes, psychiatry and transgender health.

About Dr. Johnson Williams:


Dr. Porscha Johnson Williams is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and earned her Doctor of Pharmacy from Howard University College of Pharmacy in Washington, DC. She furthered her training through the completion of a post-doctoral clinical pharmacy fellowship in hematology/oncology and critical care at Howard University Hospital. Double-certified in pharmacogenomics, she enthusiastically embodies a special interest in the clinical utility of precision oncology and pharmacogenomics/genetics to optimize therapy, improve outcomes, and advocate for health equity for all cancer patients.

About Dr. Below:


Jameshia Andrea Below, PharmD is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Louisiana at Monroe College of Pharmacy. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Science degree at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Louisiana at Monroe College of Pharmacy. She went on to complete a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Slidell Memorial Hospital and a PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency at Memorial Regional Hospital/ Memorial Cancer Institute. As a faculty member, she practices at the Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport – Monroe Medical Center as a Clinical Oncology Pharmacy Specialist where she collaborates with hematology/oncology physicians and nurses to develop supportive care plans for cancer patients and counsel patients on oral chemotherapy, supportive care medications, and others. The clinics that she are involved in include breast cancer, malignant hematology and gastrointestinal.


Jameshia is currently a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, Hematology Oncology Pharmacist Association, Louisiana Society of Health-System Pharmacists, Minority Women Pharmacists Association and the National Pharmaceutical Association. She also serves on the Curriculum Committee and as Co-Advisor to the Student National Pharmaceutical Association at the University of Louisiana at Monroe College of Pharmacy.



Meagan A. Brown, PharmD, BCACP

About Dr. Brown:


Dr. Meagan Brown is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Coordinator of Community Pharmacy Development with the Division of Pharmacy Professional Development, within the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy in Jackson, Mississippi. She earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Xavier University of Louisiana’s College of Pharmacy in 2010. Upon graduation, Dr. Brown completed a PGY-1 Community Pharmacy Practice Residency and joined faculty immediately upon finishing. 

Her clinical practice site is mainly a federally-qualified health center in rural Mississippi, where she provides clinical services to patients under grant funding focused on cardiometabolic diseases. Additionally, she is the primary residency preceptor for the independent pharmacy experience, and helps resident pharmacists develop clinical services in this setting as well. In the classroom, Dr. Brown’s coursework is mainly focused on chronic disease and developing coursework around rural health. 

She currently serves on the Diversity and Inclusion Task Force within the School of Pharmacy, search committees for faculty and state organizations, course committees, and many committees with other national pharmacy organizations and state organizations- Mississippi Society of Health Systems Pharmacists (Secretary), Magnolia State Pharmaceutical Society, and Mississippi Pharmacists Association. 

Dr. Brown is an active member in her community- serving on her health ministry at New Jerusalem Church, a 2017 Honoree of Best Dressed Jackson with the American Cancer Society, a member of the Circle of Red for the Metro Jackson Chapter of the American Heart Association, an active member of the Junior League of Jackson, and founding board member of the Jackson Professional Group. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family- especially her loving husband, Dr. Terrence H. Brown and three children- Joshua, Tristin, and Mason.



Melanie Dicks, PharmD, BCACP

About Dr. Dicks:


Dr. Melanie Dicks is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Kentucky’s College of Pharmacy where she teaches with a focus on patient-centered care in ambulatory and community settings. She coordinates and teaches in the Community Service-Learning component of the Patient-Centered Care Experience course series, as well as teaches in the Wellness & Health Promotion course. Within the College, she serves on the Academic Performance Committee and advises the UK chapter of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association.


As a Board-Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist, Dr. Dicks serves at Bluegrass Community Health Center (BCHC) where she is part of an interdisciplinary health care team and approach to provide quality, comprehensive primary care services to underserved populations. She specifically leads a clinical pharmacy team in the provision of comprehensive medication therapy management, collaborative drug therapy management, pharmacotherapy consultation, and other clinical pharmacy services to optimize therapy for vulnerable and indigent populations. At this same practice site, she serves as the PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency Program Director. Dr. Dicks’ practice and research interests include the provision of culturally-sensitive care, caring for indigent populations, medication-assisted treatment in substance use disorders, community service-learning, and social entrepreneurship. She is a 2000 graduate of Kentucky State University, a 2004 graduate of the University of Kentucky’s College of Pharmacy, and was residency-trained at The Ohio State University.


While currently completing an MBA degree, Dr. Dicks continues with a passion in serving the comprehensive educational needs of student and resident pharmacists as well as underserved populations. Dr. Dicks strives to advance cultural diversity efforts with hopes of closing health disparity gaps and improving patient outcomes in underserved populations.


Heather Fields, PharmD, MPH, BCACP

About Dr. Fields:


Dr. Heather Fields, PharmD, MPH, BCACP is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy since 2011. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health from the University of Illinois, in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois (2002), Masters of Public Health from University of Illinois, in Chicago, Illinois (2005), and Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Illinois College of Pharmacy, in Chicago, Illinois (2009). She completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency in Community Care with The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy and the Clinical Partners Program, in Columbus, Ohio.

Dr. Fields has practiced as an ambulatory care pharmacist at Access Community Health Network in Chicago for the past 6 years. She helps manage patients with chronic disease states such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and opioid use disorder. Located at the Ashland Family Health Center in the Englewood community, her patients are predominately from minority and underserved backgrounds. Interests include substance abuse, public health, health disparities, and community outreach. Also, she has recently participated in 3 medical mission trips to Haiti and the Dominican Republic. She is President-Elect of the Chicago Pharmacists Association and the faculty advisor for Phi Lambda Sigma.



Damien R. Fisher, PharmD, AE-C

About Dr. Fisher

Dr. Fisher is an Assistant Professor Pharmacy Practice (Ambulatory Care) with a clinical practice site as a Pharmacy Clinical Practice Specialist at Good Samaritan Clinic (Free Health Clinic). Dr. Fisher graduated from Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy with Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2004. He prolonged his studies and completed an ASHP Accredited Residency with an Emphasis on Community and Ambulatory Care at University of Tennessee. He became intrigued in academia, during his career he has held two Clinical Assistant Professor positions at Hampton University School of Pharmacy and University of Houston College of Pharmacy. When the opportunity presents itself to serve in a guiding or advising role to student, Dr. Fisher is knocking at the door. He has been involved in mock interviews, curriculum vitae seminars, and promoting the stepping-stone of residency as an option after graduation. He believes in the idea of lifelong learning as a key to success, whether it is in residency training or in obtaining a certificate in a specific specialty of pharmacy. He is certified as an APhA instructor for immunizations and is a very active member within American Association Diabetic Educators. His passion in the ambulatory care world is within the disease states of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He became a certified asthma educator to improve patient outcomes through teaching inhaler technique. He is also heavily involved with the American Lung Association (ALA) as a presenter and educator to patients as well as other health care professionals. The joy of his life is being at home with his lovely wife and child playing board games or playing basketball. Above all, Dr. Fisher in his spare time is an avid moviegoer who watches all genres of movies and even goes as far critiquing them.

Dr. Elizabeth B. Hearn is set to join faculty in the Department of Pharmacotherapy at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in August 2021 and will serve as an ambulatory care pharmacist at the Baylor, Scott, & White Community Care Clinic for uninsured patients in Fort Worth, Texas. She is a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy, where she also completed the PGY-1 Community Pharmacy Residency and PGY-2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency Programs. Her proudest professional accomplishment is the development of a PGY-2 elective learning experience that aimed to combat obesity in a rural Mississippi Federally Qualified Health Center. Her interests include chronic disease management and academia with a focus in student services.



Kirstyn Hill, PharmD

About Dr. Hill:


Dr. Kirstyn Hill, originally from the Chicagoland area, currently practices a clinical pediatric pharmacist at The Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Health and Health Disparities from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Public Health degrees from the University of Kentucky. While at the University of Kentucky, she served as the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) chapter president and the treasurer of Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS). She then completed her PGY-1 pharmacy practice residency at Lee Health in Fort Myers, Florida.


As a pediatric clinical pharmacist, Dr. Hill practices in multiple pediatric departments and interacts with a variety of patient populations. She is an active member of the National Pharmaceutical Association (NPhA) and American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP). Her passions and interests include public health, health equity, precepting, career development and mentorship.

About Dr. Mills:


Dr. Alex Mills is a board-certified ambulatory care pharmacist and credentialed HIV Pharmacist through the American Academy of HIV Medicine. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Purdue University in 2017, completed a PGY1 community-based residency with Walgreens and Purdue in Indianapolis, Indiana, followed by a PGY2 specializing in ambulatory care with The University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy (also known as Ole Miss). He was previously faculty at Manchester University in Fort Wayne, Indiana, practicing Family Medicine at Neighborhood Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center, and is currently faculty at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy.


Dr. Mills provides ambulatory care services within two of Mississippi's largest Ryan White programs and also serves as director of clinical services for the University of Mississippi Medical Center's "TEAM" clinic, which provides primary and gender-affirming care to persons of the LGBTQ+ community. His clinical and research interests include the management, knowledge, attitudes, and practice of managing non-infectious comorbidities in persons living with HIV and LGBTQ persons..

Dr. Frank North is a twice graduate of Texas Southern University having earned the Bachelors of Science degree in Biology and the Doctor of Pharmacy degree. After receiving his Bachelors degree, Frank participated in the Integrated Technology Transfer Network Fellowship and received a Certificate of Business Entrepreneurship – Technology Transfer from California State University – San Bernardino funded by the Army Research Laboratory partnered with the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO). Dr. North is actively involved in many pharmacy organizations. Frank is a life member of the Texas Southern University National Alumni Association, life member and President Elect of the National Pharmaceutical Association. About Dr. Shaw:

Trishia E. Shaw, PharmD, BCPS is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP). A native Chicagoan, Dr. Shaw earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology degree from Loyola University Chicago in 2004 and her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy in 2009.

In 2017, Dr. Shaw completed the Non-Traditional PGY-1 Residency Program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. Prior to completing the residency program, Dr. Shaw practiced as a Clinical Pharmacist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in several capacities, including neonatal, women’s health, psychiatry specialties as well as staffing as an overnight pharmacist. In her current role as a Clinical Assistant Professor, Dr. Shaw currently practices as a Family Medicine Clinical Pharmacist at Cook County Health (CCH) Englewood Health Center. She became a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist in 2013.

Dr. Shaw has been a member of the NPhA since 2009, and currently serves as the Zone 3 Director. She has previously served NPhA in several capacities including Secretary and Exhibits Co-Coordinator. In 2013, she was awarded NPhA’s Young Pharmacist Award. She is also currently the president of the Chicago Pharmacists Association, the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists, the American Pharmacists Association, Phi Lambda Sigma Leadership Fraternity, and the Illinois Council of Health-Systems Pharmacists.

Dr. Ubanyionwu received her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy in 2014. She completed a Postgraduate Year One Pharmacy Residency at Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy in New Orleans, Louisiana and a Postgraduate Year Two Ambulatory Care Residency at Parkland Health & Hospital System in Dallas, Texas. Additionally, Dr. Ubanyionwu is a Board-Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist (BCACP).


Dr. Ubanyionwu is currently an ambulatory care clinical pharmacist at Harris Health System in Houston, Texas serving patients in underserved areas and managing multiple chronic diseases. Dr. Ubanyionwu’s initial exposure to research occurred during her second professional year in pharmacy school where she expressed interest to her mentor who then later exposed her to the intricacies of research (e.g. developing a research question, utilizing research assessment tools, statistical analysis, and applying for study institutional review board (IRB) approval) and thus strengthened her comfort with the research lifecycle.


Dr. Ubanyionwu has worked on several research projects during her tenure as an ambulatory care clinical pharmacist and has played an active role in mentoring pharmacy residents in their residency research endeavors. She believes that it is crucial that pharmacists participate in generating new information and knowledge to guide patient care and advance the profession of pharmacy.
