The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) is an international professional society devoted to optimal medication management and improved health outcomes for all older persons. ASCP's senior care consultant pharmacist members manage and improve quality of life of geriatric patients and other individuals residing in a variety of environments, including nursing facilities, sub-acute care and assisted living facilities, psychiatric hospitals, hospice programs, and home and community-based care. A board-certified geriatric pharmacist and graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy, Worz’s career has focused on the medication management of older adults. Worz developed an innovative clinical practice in a long-term care setting in the state of Ohio and directed the pharmacy practice of a regional, independent pharmacy. Worz went on to establish a nation-wide, geriatric-based pharmacist consulting company to educate and provide medication management services to nursing facility residents, nursing facility administration, long-term care pharmacies, and the public. During the pandemic he helped amplify the role of the pharmacist in testing, treatment, and vaccination, bridging front line pharmacists and government agencies. Amal Assa'adThe Pharmacist's Role in Managing Primary Immunodeficiencies (PI): Recognizing, Understanding, and Supporting Patients with PI About Dr. Assa'ad: Friday - 1:00 PM Dr. Assa’ad is the director of the Food Allergy Program within the Division of Allergy and Immunology at Cincinnati Children’s. As a pediatric allergist, she sees patients with asthma; allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis; anaphylaxis; drug and vaccine allergies; eczema; immunodeficiencies; urticaria; and angioedema. She specializes in caring for children with food allergies. After completing her medicine/pediatric residency, she pursued a fellowship in allergy and immunology. She finds this field exciting because it addresses variations in the immune system—some of which lead to common allergic disorders, while others reveal rare immunodeficiencies. She received the Woman in Allergy Award from two national organizations: the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology in 2005 and the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology in 2013. Leisha McKinley-BeachBreaking Down Silos: A Collaborative Approach to HIV Stigma and Access About Ms. McKinley-Beach: Friday - 3:30 PM Ms. McKinley-Beach earned a Master of Public Health degree from the University of West Florida and conducts training and presents on public health concepts and issues, primarily for communities of color. Her career as a peer educator began while she was a student at UF in 1991, with a group called the AIDS Peer Educators. Ms. McKinley-Beach leads training sessions around COVID-19 and racism in health care at Morehouse College. She is also working with on research projects with Emory University focused on COVID-19 and its impact on people of color with HIV, and Black communities and their perceptions and attitudes around COVID-19 prevention strategies. One of her greatest honors came from her work around National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day in which the mayor of Pensacola issued a proclamation thanking her for her work on the cause. In addition, she’s received recognition from the CDC Office of Minority Health and Equity and several NAACP branches across Florida. |

She committed much of her time here to patient advocacy and exploring cost saving initiatives to improve medication access and while managing 340B initiatives. At present, Dr. Nkwocha is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist with UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Within her current role, she continues to manage patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart failure and a plethora of other chronic disease states. Within this health system, she has been able to expand the role of pharmacists through use of collaborative practice agreements and pharmacy-led clinics. Her clinical role spans both academic and direct patient care. Because of her love for teaching, she serves as a preceptor to both pharmacy and medical students and residents. Dr. Nkwocha, continues to show her commitment to the profession of pharmacy as she serves as a mentor for students in various pharmacy organizations. She continues to advocate and encourage all pharmacists to practice at the top of their license and engage in legislative conversations that support recognizing pharmacists as providers. Her focus areas are functional gastrointestinal disorders, nutritional deficiencies, metabolic conditions, and autoimmune conditions. She is also a nationally recognized speaker on diabetes and functional medicine. She is currently Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Specialist (BCACP), a Board Certified in Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM), and is Board Certified through American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (ABAAHP). She is the founder of PharmToTable, LLC, where she develops continuing education for pharmacists at FxMedCE.com and provides a platform for functional medicine telehealth visits at PharmToTable.Life. She and her team of pharmacists across the country are ready to help transform lives, from not feeling well, tired, stressed, and experiencing GI symptoms; to thriving, symptom free and back to enjoying life! She is passionate about working as a team to change the landscape of pharmacist provided care. She is also the Director of Clinical Services for Profero Team, and practices at Integrative Metabolic Center in Dayton Ohio and Elite Medicine in the Cincinnati area. She is a graduate of Ohio Northern University College of Pharmacy and completed her residency training at Chalmers P. Wylie VA Ambulatory Care Center. Her functional medicine education has come from a variety of different conferences, educational programs, and clinical experience. She has completed Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice (AFMCP) from Institute of Functional Medicine and completed a Fellowship of Anti-Aging, Metabolic and Functional Medicine (FAAMFM) with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M). |
Malaika R Turner, PharmD, MPHPrecepting to Preparation: Preparing our students with skills for the future About Dr. Turner: Monday - 10:15 AM Malaika R Turner, PharmD, MPH is the Clinical Skills Coordinator and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Howard University College of Pharmacy, previously serving as the Interim Assistant Dean of Student Affairs. Prior to joining the Howard University team, she practiced as a Clinical Pharmacist at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, focusing on operations and medication safety. This session will examine APPE readiness among student pharmacists by highlighting the key skill gaps they face when entering advanced experiential rotations and employment, and demonstrate how preceptors can guide their development through targeted active-learning activities. Walk away with the ability to recognize specific areas where students need improvement, understand the pivotal role of preceptors in student growth, and implement practical, culturally responsive exercises that strengthen competencies in underserved settings.

Kenric Benjamin Ware, PharmD, MBA, AAHIVPPotential Indicators of Decreased Consumer Engagement in HIV PrEP Telehealth About Dr. Ware: Monday - 11:30 AM Kenric B. Ware is a clinical pharmacist with specialized expertise in HIV care and a track record in pharmacy education. Kenric has served in a number of HIV leadership roles including as current Chair of the Board of the Joseph H. Neal Health Collaborative in Columbia, South Carolina and previous chairperson of the South Carolina (SC) HIV/AIDS Council. This session will explore indicators of non-responsiveness among patients initiated on HIV PrEP via telehealth, examine the clinical and public health implications of telehealth disengagement, and suggest targeted strategies to overcome barriers to sustained engagement. Walk away with the ability to identify early warning signs of drop-off—such as missed follow-ups and delayed lab tests—insight into how disengagement affects individual and community health outcomes, and practical interventions (e.g., addressing stigma, improving digital literacy, and mitigating socioeconomic challenges) to support continued PrEP adherence. |
